DMCA & Abuse Policy
DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) & Abuse Policy
What is the DMCA?
Congress enacted this DMCA Act to protect the rights of copyright holders. More information about this law can be found at the US Copyright Office.( http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf)
Why did I receive an abuse notification?
US Cable received a formal DMCA complaint or an abuse notification associated with your account. In order to be in compliance, we must notify you accordingly.
US Cable notifies it’s subscribers of alleged abuses as outlined in our Acceptable Use Policy via US Postal Services. A notification letter is sent to the subscriber’s billing address on record for each alleged offense per day. Multiple offense within the same day may only result in one mailed letter.
Multiple notifications and/or the continuation of the alleged illegal activity and the continued breach of the US Cable Acceptable Usage Policy may lead to account termination or further liability.
What can you do to avoid future notifications?
These notification letters are sent because of Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) abuses or copyright infringement. Network abuses such as port scans, spam, etc. can be both intentional and unintentional. In any case, direct violations of our AUP are prohibitive and the infringing behavior stopped. In some cases the root cause is virus or Trojan related. Therefore we emphasize the importance of maintaining proper network security to prevent intruders or malicious files from compromising your network. These efforts include but are not limited to maintaining an up to date anti-virus application and running routine scans, having a secure wireless password, and being mindful of what applications/files you download and save on your network.
If you would like more information on securing your US Cable Wireless Gateway, consult the owner's manual for your device from the following link or contact your local US Cable office for additional assistance.
How do I dispute the complaint?
For reference purposes the Abuse Notification Letter contains an Incident Number that can be researched by a US Cable Customer Service Representative upon request from the subscriber. To speak with a representative about an Abuse Notification, please contact your local US Cable Office. US Cable office numbers can be found here.
